Our Houston area communities will all soon be sending their scholars back to school for the 2009-2010 school year, and we at Friendswood Development Company could not be prouder. As we reflect on the past productive school years with the Houston communities and imagine the even greater things to come, we predict one of the most successful school years in the Houston area yet.

A Legacy

Friendswood Development has become a foundation for the Houston population and its future. The communities we have developed span across an array of award-winning school districts. Our communities' educational repertoire now includes: TEA Recognized Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D., Lamar Consolidated I.S.D., TEA Recognized Alvin I.S.D., TEA Recognized New Caney I.S.D., Conroe I.S.D., and TEA Recognized Friendswood I.S.D.

We our proud to say that our communities have triggered growth that paved the path to numerous schools and even entire school districts.

Looking Back

Some of our favorite communities' educational accomplishments in 2008-2009:

-West Ranch schools in Friendswood I.S.D. received a "Summer Christmas".

-McNeill Elementary School's principal, Ken Davis, became the Texas 2009 Elementary Level Distinguished Principal.

-Savannah Lakes Elementary (a Lakes of Savannah namesake) opened for Lakes of Savannah students K-5.

-Swenke Elementary was built and will open for the 2009-2010 school year in Fairfield!

Looking Forward

As a token of our appreciation and with the intent of simply being good neighbors, each community website now has a blog post up with information on gearing up for the new school year in their respective school districts. If you need more info on Kindergarten Roundup, school supplies, or bus stops, visit your community website's blog!

Fairfield

Lakes of Savannah

Oakhurst at Kingwood

Lakemont

Graystone Hills

West Ranch

McNeill Elementary School Principal Earns National Honor

McNeill Elementary School Principal Ken Davis is the Texas 2009 Elementary Level National Distinguished Principal. McNeill Elementary School serves elementary school age children living in Lakemont.

Davis is described as an incredible role model who believes in every child, every day and although he is highly admired and respected by his students and colleagues, he was surprised with the recent announcement that was made before more than 2,300 educators at the Texas Elementary Principals & Supervisors Association’s (TEPSA) Summer Conference.

Davis received a check for $10,000, and will represent Texas at the National Distinguished Principals program held in Washington, D.C. in October.

“Ken’s leadership skills are evident in all of his work,” TEPSA Executive Director Sandi Borden said. “Whether leading his campus, working in his school district or serving as a TEPSA volunteer, he exemplifies the spirit of a true learning leader.”

Leading a melting pot of 27 cultures, Davis has created a school family that collaborates to achieve academic, social and behavioral goals for each child. Working diligently beside his staff, Davis empowers people to seek innovations, share ideas and implement best practices for students.

In Lamar CISD, Davis is known as a principal who will inquire about instructional programming, seek solutions regarding curriculum issues, share information with colleagues and serve as an advocate for students. Before opening McNeill this year Davis led Pink Elementary, from academically acceptable to exemplary.

Each year, Texas recognizes one National Distinguished Principal from the elementary level and one from the middle level. Hubenak Elementary principal Diane Parks was the Texas National Distinguished Principal in 2007.

Since 1917, TEPSA has served Texas principals and supervisors. TEPSA has more than 5,300 members. These administrators supervise more than 150,000 teachers who direct the activities of more than 2.3 million PreK-8 school children.

The announcement a part of the great news about the growing Lamar CISD.
Just last month, the district earned top honors in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award and $100,000 that will benefit the district’s education foundation.

Noted for its outstanding student and teacher achievement and strong community support, LCISD serves school-age children in Lakemont. One of the district’s newest schools – McNeill Elementary opened last fall and is located just past the entrance of Lakemont.

Known for its location adjacent to the entrance of the Westpark Tollway, Lakemont features new homes priced from the $140,000s to the $300,000s by Lennar, J. Patrick Homes, Perry Homes and Brighton Homes. New decorated models are now open daily.

In addition to a new elementary school, residents in Lakemont enjoy a wide variety of amenities such as lakes, parks, greenbelt trails and two resort-style pools.

Source: Lamar CISD
